Why planting design is harder in the UAE
The Middle East presents one of the most challenging climates for landscape planting in the world: extreme heat, sandy alkaline soils, salt air near the coast, low rainfall, and water that is itself often slightly saline. Plants that succeed in Mediterranean or temperate gardens regularly fail here. Our planting palettes are built from a tested vocabulary of species - including native, naturalised and adapted plants from arid regions worldwide - that we know perform reliably in UAE conditions across multiple project types.
Softscape is rarely delivered standalone - it works best alongside hardscape and irrigation as part of one integrated landscape design. We coordinate planting decisions with site grading, drainage and lighting from concept through installation supervision.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you design a low-water garden that still looks lush?
Yes. Some of our most successful projects use water-efficient species arranged in dense, layered planting to create the perception of abundance with a fraction of the water consumption of a conventional lawn-and-hedge garden. We aim for ecological honesty - gardens that look right for their climate.
Do you specify mature trees or grow them on site?
Both, depending on the brief. For villa projects where the client wants impact on day one, we typically specify mature transplants. For larger developments we often combine semi-mature trees in feature locations with younger stock that grows in over time.
Will you supervise the planting installation?
Through our Design Guardianship service, yes. We visit site during planting, verify species and quality on delivery, and direct any adjustments needed when conditions on site differ from the drawings.
