Materials used in the project, not only complement the building but are also relevant to UAE‘s climate. Local boulders and compacted gravel, combined with natural timber pergolas and beige swimming pool finish, create a very unique space.

Native plants require much less water to survive therefore making it a perfect choice in a climate where water is very scarce. Choosing local stone over imported ones also contributed to the sustainability of the project as these are sourced locally and therefore consume less energy to transport.

Project name: Rain Cafe - Dubai Key project details Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates Client: Private individual Type: Villa garden design Situated right in the heart of Dubai, this boutique restaurant project aims to create a locally relevant development that is inspired by the local environment. plenerr has been tasked with assisting T.ZED Architects in developing a sustainable design that focuses on creating natural outdoor spaces that will encourage the customers of this boutique restaurant to step outside and enjoy eating or working surrounded by a refreshing natural setting.The design features several carefully placed walls, cladded with local stone, that act as a design feature and a focal point to key internal spaces. The planting species were selected based on their low water consuption as well as the ability to adapt to harsh summer heat. Most trees and shrubs present in the design can be found growing naturally all over the UAE. Water features in the design are limited in size and quantity as designing with water in the middle east can be tricky. Since water is a very scarce resource in this part of the world, the team ensured that the water features are placed where they can offer significant aesthetic value, and are placed in shaded areas to avoid excessive water evaporation from the heat.
Arrival experiences are incredibly important, especially for restaurant projects, as they are the first impression of the overall space.
Carefully positioned water features and special trees right outside the restaurant main windows, complete the overall dining experience.
